All By Myself

Suddenly have a taste for some oldies songs. Especially this "All by Myself".

It is a power ballad originally written and sung by Eric Carmen back in 1975. After it is released, it has been covered more than 30 times until now by more than 30 artists, including the famous Frank Sinatra a year after, Celine Dion in the year of 1996, and others.

Personally, I've heard only 3 of the 3o something versions of this song which are Eric Carmen's, Celine Dion's and Jamie O'Neal's. The great thing about this song is that it has simple melody but yet it brings out a strong feeling of loneliness. Not much instruments in it and the piano plays a very important role to lift up the vocal of the singer. There is a climax in this song during the bridge where all the emotion, feeling, lyrical expression lay and burst out all the same time.

Eric Carmen- The most original version, the writers always know the best way to perform their masterpiece. Merely piano sounds good with the vocal at the beginning. This is the version of song you have to listen first before any other versions.


Celine Dion- This is what would happen when an amazing singer meets with a great song. If you are fond for high notes and more heavily emotional ballad, this is the one for you. The vocal of Celine Dion is simply amazing, especially when it reaches the climax of the song! Personally, I think no one can beat Celine Dion's version of "All by Myself" despite Eric Carmen's. It is just so... awesome.
